Tai Chi Art

Tai Chi is a mixed martial arts form. It is not exclusively Thai in that sense. During the ancient times, as a means to develop self defense while hunting etc this art form was developed. It uses the principle of Tao Ya Jing and Kung Fu.

How does it differ from other defence forms?

Well tai chi is different because it is more of an internal process. Unlike in Kung Fu or Karate, tai chi promotes deep breathing and straight postures for the body. Tai Chi is therefore a martial art form that helps you maintain your blood pressure levels normal throughout the period of physical exertion. Tai Chi is all about concentrating hard and holding on till the end.

What are the diferent types?

Tai Chi has four variations and forms each known by different names. There is the Yang Style that focuses on a perpetual bodily motion and that too not brisk. In Yang Style all the body parts should be in a synchronous motion and agile through out the process. As a result the stance that you take while practising this would be wider than in any other forms. The bodu is kept low and legs are stretched at an acute angle to prepare the body for an undue attack. Chen is another form of tai Chi which in some ways is similar to Kung Fu. Here the body is in a swifter motion throughout and legs are further ned unlike in Yang. Other two variations are Wu and Sun. Wu is one of the latest of all the variations. In this style the stance itself is unlike that in the previous two that were discussed. Sun was developed in the early 20th century and is another neo-tai chi variations.
